Know About Power Cuts Beforehand in Kolkata
The West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited ( WBPDCL) has initiated a proposal to publish power-cut schedule in newspaper dailies. The announcement was made in Kolkata with the intention to inform the residents of the powercuts beforehand. The state West Bengal is reeling under acute power shortage. It is noted that the decline of the generation of the power supply has been from 3,300 mw to 2300-2500 mw. Because of this there is a rise of spontaneous power cuts for prolonged periods of time. Lately frustrated residents in certain parts have ransacked as many as twenty WBSEDCL offices and beaten up officials. The crisis had begun just after Puja.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had taken up the matter with various coal companies but is unwilling to let them increase the tariff. West Bengal Electricity Regulatory Commission (WBERC) is already reeling under financial slump. Even the banks are unwilling to commit to the generation company. One of the official at WBERC said that publishing the schedule of the power cut beforehand will hopefully control public resentment.
