Lakes in Bangalore are contaminated with harsh chemicals
The Bellandur lake in Bangalore is considered one of the beautiful lake midst the largest water bodies in the city. However it remains same no more as the lake is witnessing over flow of sewage water and harmful chemicals resulting in water contamination also causing threat to the lives of wildlife. The lake has a splendid history of taking its foundations nearly 130 years ago and is till date spread across approximately 950 acres.
The lake was a source of survival for more than 18 villages which are at present under the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The residents had even filed a petition to the court for not cleaning the lakes at regular intervals but the legal steps bared hardly any fruit to them. Farmers surviving in and around the lake areas are using the same lake water to cultivate crops and vegetables. Also residents near by the northern part of the lake are involved in fishing every day.
