Major scope for developers through education sector
Real estate players have been provided with significant opportunities as the education sector lacks physical infrastructure.
The quantity of physical infrastructure and real estate development required is as huge that education institution operators or government cannot achieve it alone.
There are around 25,000 colleges and 460 universities in our country with over 144 million customers in education sector. Our country is ranked amongst the largest markets globally, says DTZ survey.
In order to achieve the GER (gross enrolment ratio) ratio of 30 percent by 2020, nearly 2,220 million sq ft space is required for the educational sector including hostels, retail space, etc. The GER in our country is at 12 percent at present which is not even half the global average.
Some real estate developers have already ventured into the higher education sector. Those are Salapuria Developers, Mantri Developers, MCN Group and Prestige Group. Realtors can get additional revenues by providing amenities and facilities like play areas, staff housing, hostels, retail space and recreation facilities.
