MCD Delhi Officials got a Taste of Waterlogging Problem in their Own
In the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Civic Centre, there are four water harvesting wells. The motor that pumps out the water hasn’t been working for some time due to which there was water accumulation yesterday in front of the office. Even on Ranjit Singh Marg there was waterlogging and huge traffic jam due to the protest rally of Anna Hazare team at Ramlila Maidan. The drainage system on Ranjit Singh Marg is being repaired and due to construction there was waterlogging.
A large pool of stagnant water at the entrance of the building on Jawaharlal Nehru Marg made it difficult for people to enter the building premises . “When they cannot solve the waterlogging in their own building then what will they do for the public,” said Jagan Mohan who had come there to meet an MCD official.
MCD has claimed all throughout this season that they have fixed the problem of waterlogging in the city. However, the condition outside their own office counters their claims. MCD officials got a taste of waterlogging problem on Friday after the entrance of MCD Civic Centre was blocked due to the rains.
MCD has spent over Rs 100 crore for the purchase of machines like super suction device , pumping machines and JCBs. Prior to 2008, de-silting of the drains was the task of the contractor.
