MCD demolished Unauthorised Properties in S Delhi
In the last 13 days,the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD)’s south zone has taken sealing and demolition action against 99 properties, of which close to 75-80 were constructed on agricultural land. Intensifying its drive against unauthorized construction and encroachment, MCD demolished 10 properties on Monday, including one in Chattarpur Enclave which was razed to the ground.
MCD officials say unauthorized construction is rampant in villages, specially on agricultural land. “The land is for agricultural purpose, but illegal construction and encroachment is rampant here. Land use can’t be changed without proper permission. Most of the buildings are being constructed by the builders’ mafia. A majority of the buildings are for residential purpose, which will be sold off to people,” said a senior MCD official.
Apart from MCD, Delhi government too can crack the whip against such properties, but officials say no action has been taken so far. “Delhi government’s revenue department is supposed to take action in such cases. It is important to curb the illegal construction going on in these areas,” said an MCD official.
MCD razed properties in Chattarpur Enclave (phase II), Paryavaran Complex, Freedom Fighter’s colony, Chattarpur Extension and Maidangarhi Extension. “We demolished a five-storeyed building in Chattarpur Enclave using the column cutting technique. The building was violating all building byelaws and was constructed on agricultural land,” said an MCD official.
