MCG commissioner orders installation of trash bins in Gurgaon

Ashok Sangwan, municipal commissioner, was shocked to see unused new trash bins piled up in the office on his visit to one of the Municipal Corporation Gurgaon (MCG) offices. These trash bins were supposed to be installed in various parts of the city. The commissioner then directed the officials to install the bins at respective locations at the earliest.

He also asked the chief medical officer to visit two wards regularly between 8 am and 10 am and to submit a report to him by 11 am regarding the sanitation in the area.

He said he was aghast to see many unused dust bins piled up at the office in Sector-39, Gurgaon, while garbage is spilled in many parts of the city. He warned the contractors that their pay will be deducted if they don’t perform their job to maintain cleanliness.

Commenting on why the trash bins are not installed, a health department official said, platforms of a particular height have to be installed in order to keep the bins and if there are no platforms and the bins are kept on the ground, it will melt and become useless. Moreover, they are facing shortage of manpower due to which the work is getting delayed. There are around two dozen such dustbins and they will create these platforms soon and install them, he added.

It is the chief medical officer’s responsibility to visit different wards with his deputed team to check the sanitation work done by the sanitation contractors appointed by the MCG.

An official says, the visit has already been started and report is also being submitted on daily basis. Feedback is also requested from the residents in which reports can be prepared based on that. The official added that if the contractors are not doing their work properly, they will loose their pay.
