At least a 100 illegal houses in an area of 100 acre in the Noida Extension have been razed by the Greater Noida Authority. The authority said that the land belong to the them, hence no permission has been given to build houses in Chipyana village.

An official of Greater Noida Authority said that they are conducting surveys on illegal possession. Additional police force has been arranged for the operation. There was protest from some residents against the drive.

However, the residents have opposed the drive stating that they have done “proper documentation” before buying those properties four to five years ago.

Ram Kumar, a resident says that if they have illegally possessed the area, then getting electricity connections or water supply would not have been possible. The residents are in difficulty as their all savings were invested into these houses, which have been destroyed and also all their belongings were destroyed in the same operation.

A police officer said that complaints have been filed by few residents against “land sharks” who has sold those lands illegally.

Few complaints and an FIR against unnamed persons have been received, which has been registered under apt sections of the Indian Penal Code. During the investigation, proper measures will be taken on those who are guilty, a senior official says.
