MCG Gurgaon proposed stormwater drain to prevent waterlogging
A two-kilometre stormwater drain at a budget of Rs 2.5 crore would ensure that the city experiences a better monsoon next year. The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has proposed two-kilometre stormwater drain which will be linked to the existing HUDA stormwater drain.
Brief spells of rain have caused waterlogging in several areas in the city, especially in parts of old Gurgaon, that comes under the MCG’s jurisdiction. This not only led to traffic congestion, but residents also complained of water entering their houses.
The main reason for this chaos is the non-existence of stormwater drains in the city. In the absence of an efficient drainage system, the water does not have an outlet and therefore gets accumulated.
The MCG seems to have finally woken up to the problem that plagues the city every year and has drawn a proposal to construct a stormwater drain connecting the Old DLF colony and Sector 12 at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore.
“All this while, the old city never had an efficient stormwater drainage system and therefore we plan to construct a main drain that would connect all the small drains through which the rainwater can flow. We will connect our drain with the existing HUDA drain and the water will flow to the water treatment plant. The proposal is ready and work is likely to get completed in about three months. So even though it might not be so useful this season, we are hoping that the situation is much better next year,” said an official.
