Meru cab strike Continues to add woes to Commuters in Mumbai

No Comments Sub Category:Uncategorized Posted On: Oct 25, 2011

Residents in Mumbai have to bear the burnt of of the the Meru cab drivers strike. The strike has acutely affected passengers traveling to airports. They have to shell out more than what is usual by paying for similar services.  Since October 6 some five hundred cabs were plying in the streets. But at present there isn’t a single cab. Meru drivers are agitating against the recent hike in the daily membership subscription fee by the authorities amongst others like a weekly off or one off in ten days, in case of mechanical failure subscription fee to be waived and no driver should be punished based on customer complaint and proper probe into the matter should be done.

The agitation has taken a political vantage with both the Shiv Sena and the Nitesh Rane-led Swabhimaan Sangathna union joining in the agitation. Infact earlier the Shiv Sena union has issued a statement the protest is likely to end soon. But the foray of Nitesh Rane’s union into the protest saying that the Shiv Sena has failed to provide solution to the issues of the cab drivers has ensured that no cabs ply on the streets unless all the demands are met. Both the parties have taken up the cause to garner political mileage which seems be at the cost of the public.
