Meter Jam II-Say ‘NO’ to Auto and Taxis on October 12
Exactly two months after the first campaign hit the streets, four cities in India —Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Bangalore — Meter Jam II will jam meters on October 12. The “Meter Jam” campaign was launched by three adVertising professionals Abhilash Krishnan, Jaidev Rupani and Rachana Brar online on August 12. More than 12,500 citizens have pledged and boycotted the use of autos and cabs on August 12, signing up on Facebook and twitter.
With a little more than a month in hand, the three are back to their drawing boards. Using Facebook and their web site they have started recruiting volunteers in Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai. “After the August campaign, we were flooded with requests from other cities, asking for the campaign to be held there,” said Rupani.
The volunteers have been asked to submit a detailed form. A hundred and fifty volunteers have already registered. “Once we shortlist a few, we will conduct a telephonic interview and select three people each to spearhead the campaign in these cities,” added Krishnan.
The youngsters also see it as a good opportunity to improvise. They plan to emphasise on carpooling systems and even tie up with carpooling providers for better management of those who support their campaign that day. Additionally, while last time the campaign was mainly an Internet affair, this time they plan to reach out to those who are not connected to the Web, for better impact.
“By October 12, we will also launch a complaint system wherein people can list the offenders through SMS or even on our Web site. This will help create a databank of serial offenders,” added Brar. Meter Jam II will jam meters in cities of India on October 12.
