National Highway Authority of India to seek bids for Highway Maintenance
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) in New Delhi is inviting bids for Operations, Maintenance and Tolling (OMT) contracts for 3,000 to 4,000 km long highways for the up coming year. The project is an add on to the 2,900 kms of highway which the authority has already proffered for bidding earlier. It has been reported that nearly 80 companies have already participated in the bids, however this year NHAI had simplified the bidding process by allowing companies to submit documents once in a year.
The OMT contracts will empower the contractors to collect tolls on the highways for a period of 4 to 9 years. The contractors will share a part of the revenue generated through tolling with NHAI including the hike of 10 percent each year. The government will get a fixed income from private contractors also in case of profit and loss. However NHAI officials differ on the figures projected on the road length citing that 2,000 kilometers will be in concession for the next year.
