New houses for government employees
New Delhi- The government has declared the construction of houses for its employees making it the first such exercise after independence.
Although there will be new homes constructed for all the government employees, there will not be a single paisa spent from their coffers as the task has been assigned to the NBCC along with a permission of commercial exploitation.
As per the Finance Minister P Chidambaram, an approval for the re-development of Netaji Nagar and Moti Bagh (East) was given by the Union Cabinet for providing land to the National Building Construction Corporation Ltd of about 49.9 hectres.
A construction of about 492 houses of 376 Type-VI, 102 Type VII and 14 Type VIII will be constructed. Also with a cost of Rs. 265 crore a number of bungalows will be constructed within the next 31 months.
However, it was stated that the government will not be approached for any funds. The project area land was allotted to the NBCC free of cost on a basis of freehold and commercial exploitation. This will further enable them to create resources which will help them in taking up constructions of units like accommodation with a general pool and other amenities.
Sources say that this decision was an initiative by the former Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad who had always thought of eradicating housing problems of the government employees. Owing to this, this initiation was taken by him for the first time after Independence.
Not just this, this is also a unique project as funds will be generated by the NBCC themselves based on the commercial exploitation of about 10 to 15 hectares of the land sought for the construction of houses from the government.
