New routes for the Delhi Metro await DMRC nod
The two proposed metro rail routes demarcation has been done by the UT Administration. A team from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is expected to conduct an inspection on the routes and finalize the plan.
Residents expressed their concern that their houses and commercial establishments would fall on the proposed metro routes of Delhi. Following this, the demarcation process was initiated last month. The concerned authorities are preparing separate layout plans for buildings that would fall in the metro rail path or the station.
According to the detailed project report (DPR), there are few places where the entry and exit points are situated at the sites of the houses and the shops. To have a proper grid plan, wooden pegs are installed at a little distance from the buildings and the shops, at a regular intervals along with the proposed corridors.
The physical demarcation is created so that the authority can determine the line of the routes or the stations. Once the DMRC finalises the demarcation, the Administration has to find ways to tackle the problems related to the proposed plan of metro routes.
The DPR has been submitted to the Ministry of Urban Development for approval several months ago, but it is not yet approved.
A meeting of the officials with the ministers of those cities in Punjab and Haryana which was planned earlier, has been postponed twice.
Punjab accepted the plan of the project but Chandigarh is yet to get a positive nod from the center. The proposed budget for the project is around Rs 10,900 crore which will be shared among Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana.
As per the plan, the first phase of the project was supposed to start in 2013 and end by 2018 for the first phase, but till now, no progress has been made. Though all the formalities are completed, it would require months to complete the work of shifting wires and streetlights before the actual construction to start.
It is expected that the North-South corridor would extend from near Capitol Complex in Sector 1 to Gurdwara Shaheeda in Mohali, whereas East-West corridor would be from Mohali Transport Area to the Grain Market in Panchkula.
