Nagpur- Nagpur Municipal Corporation is very soon planning to save and approve at least 3 projects under the central government’s Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

The projects namely  sewage water treatment plant, Maskasath railway overbridge (ROB) and 24X7water supply project are of worth Rs 520 crore. Municipal commissioner Shyam Wardhane assured to complete all the projects by December 2013.

JNNURM was launched by government in the year 2005 with a deadline of scheme as March 31, 2012. Under this scheme the government had approved 19 big projects for the city in which 15 in 2006-07, and the rest four in 2009. The approved cost of the projects was Rs 1,581.23 crore.

Until now NMC has completed only seven projects  among which pilot project of 24X7 water supply is still under construction. Central found that  these 3 projects are among the 20 slow running projects all over India.

According to sources these projects may get canceled if the work is not satisfying . Even though the work of two projects out of three have not yet started but NMC is very confident about the completion of these projects by Dec 2013.

Sewage water treatment plant and Maskasath ROB got approval in 2006-07 while 24X7 water project got approval in 2009. ROB is a very important for Central Nagpur but was delayed due to hurdles in various clearances. NMC also failed to start the other two projects due to execution planned under PPP model.

During a meeting last week in New Delhi, Wardhane again gave a positive response regarding completion of the projects. According to a senior official of NMC the rate of speed of work of 24X7 project has been increased along with continuous monitoring. He added that work of sewage treatment plant has also initiated and on the other hand Maskasath ROB is now waiting for final approval by Indian  Railway.
