No Hike in Water rates in Mangalore
The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) in Mangalore has differed to the state government’s ordinance to increase the water rates across the state. Members in MCC have said that they are not totally opposed to the ordinance, however are differing it to a later date. The implementation of the law might hike the water tariff significantly (almost three folds). Earlier the government has directed all the civic bodies, sparing the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to increase the water tariffs.
If complied to the government ordinance, the domestic consumers who at present pays Rs 65 for 24,000 litres of water a month will have to shell out more than Rs 200 for the same. There will also an increase in the non-domestic and commercial usages. Non-domestic consumers who now pays a minimum monthly tariff of Rs 300 for consumption of 24,000 litres of water, will have to hand out nearly Rs 500. For commercial connections, the minimum monthly tariff will be increased to Rs 1,100 for 15,000 to 25,000 litres of water
