No salaries for employees of transport corporations in Kolkata

1 Comment Sub Category:Uncategorized Posted On: Nov 03, 2011

It has been come to notice that some 24,000 employees of various transport corporations in Kolkata are yet to receive their respective salaries. The five state transport corporations which are yet to grant their employees salaries are – Calcutta State Transport Corporation ( CSTC), North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC), West Bengal Surface Transport Corporation (WBSTC), South Bengal State Transport Corporation (SBSTC) and Calcutta Tramways Company (CTC).

They were also notified by the government to submit plans to show that they are self-reliant. State transport and finance ministers had met officials of all the corporations and told them that it would be impossible to continue paying their salaries if they did not generate their funds and make any profit.

Government officials are also claiming that the corporations are already overstaffed and the government shells out more than Rs 350 crore annually to make them survive and pay salaries of the employees. For the past few months, several hundreds of retired employees of these five corporations have not been receiving their pensions regularly.
