The Deputy Commissioner (Urban), M K Ayyappa, has issued notices to catfish breeders in Razaakpalya, Mastanpalya and Budanshahpalya near Bagalur, for “causing public nuisance”. Recently, as many as 12 students and two teachers of Navodaya School were injured in an attack by a stray dog in Bagalur village. The expanding cat fish rearing industry in Razaakpalya led to a rise in the canine population in the area.

The notice issued under Section 133 CrPC states that fish breeding has lead to the menace of stray dogs and scavenging birds posing serious threat to the local people. The environment is also being polluted by the business, it points out.

Earlier, Assistant Commissioner, Nanjundeshwar had said that people of Razaakpalya and adjoining villages had ‘illegally’ converted the leased farm land into fish breeding centre. With the Aero India 2011 scheduled for February, the fish breeders have been asked to cover the ponds with nets. The DC has said that the assistant commissioner has the authority to prohibit the trade or occupation injurious to the health or physical comfort of the community under the Section 133 of CrPC.

A meeting of panchayat authorities to chalk out measures on curbing stray dog menace discussed restriction on fish breeding. The breeders are promised of relocating their business to some other place.
