Only 12 objections against the proposed power tariff hike

No Comments Sub Category:Uncategorized Posted On: Nov 10, 2010

Out of eight million population in Bangalore, only 12 people seem to be against the proposed power tariff hike. Last year there were only 29 objections before the KERC and this year it has come down to as 12. At least this is the impression one gets from the number of objections filed with Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC).

Seeking objections over the power tariff hike, KERC had invited applications from individuals, resident welfare associations, trade associations, and chamber of commerce and non-government organizations. The KERC is all set to hear a petition by the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) and five electricity supply companies (ESCOMS) on November 10 and 11 to increase power tariff by 75 paise per unit.Though the last date to file objections is Thursday, sources close to KERC said that there were only 12 people who have filed objections.

There is hardly any representation from the resident welfare associations except for a couple of associations.Out of the 12 who have filed objections, trade unions and industry associations are a majority. Those who have filed objections to the power tariff hike include FKCCI, KASSIA, Textile Federation and a few other individuals.
