No Comments Sub Category:Awareness,Community Posted On: Nov 09, 2011

Chennai is well known for its longest beaches in India but are lack of fresh water bodies. Midst there is one surviving lake in the city, Chetpet lake which is 15 years old. The Chennai Government had plans of developing this lake as a tourist centre by introducing boat club, seafood stall and a fish court besides a walkway of the lake. But now it has been planned to close as the lake is now full of dumped garbage wastes but no more a fresh water body.

The lake was overfilled with garbage and recently the water was thrown out into the city roads creating hell lot of traffic jam in the near by roads. Meanwhile it was then where the residents noticed that this water body is full of dumped wastes. Its a shame on the residents for using this lake as garbage dumping site and made it a sewage destination. The lake is wide spread over nearly 15 acres of land is now filled with dumped wastes, however it was the only existing lake in the heart of Chennai city.
