Opposition demands probe over Maharashtra Sadan deal
The opposition has demanded explanation from public works minister Chhagan Bhujbal, who is beleaguered by accusations of nepotism and corruption.
The opposition parties have called for an inquiry into into the alleged Maharashtra Sadan re-development scam.
The row started after Bhujbal made a statement in reply to allegations made by the BJP.
The minister has been accused of engineering a land barter deal in favor of a private firm, Chamankar Builders, which built Maharashtra Sadan in New Delhi, the High Mount guest house and transport offices and residential quarters in Mumbai. Bhujbal is also accused of securing sub-contracts in the Maharashtra Sadan project for companies run by his kin.
Bhujbal stoutly refuted the corruption charges saying that the state government finalised the deal and the work orders and he said he is ready to face any inquiry.
