People can start filing objections to proposed tariff
The Electricity Supply Companies (Escoms) have mooted an average increase of 75 paise per unit of power. They filed the tariff petition with the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) in August. Bescom notified the tariff application on Wednesday. In the minimum slab for people consuming up to 50 units of energy, Bescom proposed a hike of 12.88%.
Citizens can start filing objections. Though the last date for this is not specified, as per rules, consumers get 30 days to challenge it. Last date for filing objections is 30 days from date of notification. Public hearing will be held in early November. Tariff order for 2010-11 likely to be passed by November-end. From December, Citizen may have to shell out more for electricity if the tariff hike proposal is accepted.
