People want parking areas but oppose fee hike

Comments(2) Sub Category:Uncategorized Posted On: Jun 27, 2012

A meeting of the special task force (STF) on Monday has revealed most people agreed that a parking policy was needed. This was after the transport department sought views on a hike in parking rates.

The STF had proposed a peak-hour rate of Rs 50 for three hours. While the charge for the first three hours during non-peak hours was set at Rs 30. The rate proposed for every hour thereafter was Rs 50 for peak hours and Rs 20 for non-peak hours.

Many people did not favour the recommendations for parking charges in residential areas.

Sunita Narain, a member of the STF and noted environmentalist said the STF discussed about setting a time frame for the hike. She said the hike has to be implemented if there is a need for more parking space and space for parking on streets is running out.
