Please don’t give us water-Residents appeal to BWSSB
When water supply was restored on Saturday, residents of the water-hit East Bangalore were joyous. But their joy was short-lived. Residents got dirty water. When they opened the taps, all they got was `dirty, black’ and `foul smelling’ water. Even the Monday morning supply got them only contaminated water.
Residents in 50 houses at K R Garden II Stage in Jeevanahalli that’s part of the water-hit East Bangalore have refused to open their taps. These residents got water after a week. But their appeal to BWSSB: Don’t give us water.
The whole of last week, they didn’t get water. Many of them managed to fill their sumps paying Rs 1,000 per tanker. But when the valve was finally opened on Saturday, it filled all their sumps with black smelling water. Angry, the residents flushed it all out, paying to get their sumps and tanks cleaned for the Monday stock. This again was contaminated. Their repeated calls to BWSSB fell on deaf ears.
Ironically, their corporator R Rajendran has his office very close to this area. He claims he has been supplying water through tankers free of cost across the ward. But residents complain that these free tankers don’t reach them. And they continue to buy water from tankers.
According to a senior BWSSB engineer, houses along narrow roads always have an inherent threat of contamination as the sanitation and water lines run close to each other. “Chances of contamination increase during long non-supply hours. The vaccuum created at the joints causes leakage,” he explained.
