PMC presents budget of Rs 4,167 crore

BudgetPune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has recently announced the budget for financial year 2013-14. The chairman of the standing committee of the civic body presented a budget of Rs 4167.50 crore for this fiscal year.

Earlier, municipal commissioner had presented a budget of Rs 3605.02 crore which was increased by Rs 534.48 crore to the present value. Compared to the current budget, last year it was approved at around Rs 3633 crore.

This budget has kept Rs 30 crore for basic civic infrastructure for the recently merged 28 villages and Rs 20 crore for development of Kothrud and surrounding areas. However, nothing has been made clear as what the developments would be.

Out of the total, Rs 56 crore has been kept for the development of 28 new villages which are going to be merged in the PMC limits in the near future.

Also, many other infrastructure developments have been planned in Pune like new grade separators, subways and foot over bridges at Baner, Balewadi, Someshwar Phata, Baner Phata, Paud Road, Kothrud police station and Karve Road with a budget of Rs 23 crore.

Furthermore, a Rs 20 crore fund has been kept aside for road development of Kothrud and a science centre in Baner-Balewadi area.

In another news, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is able to spend only 42% of the total fund which was allocated to the civic body for capital intensive development works for the financial year 2012-13.

Earlier, Rs 741.95 crore was provided in the 2012-13 budget which was increased to Rs 789.81 crore in the revised budget. However, the civic body spent only Rs 316.78 crore since April 1, 2012.

The accounts officer of PCMC has claimed that the civic chief has directed the body to start work on the projects for which provision in the budget has been made, to ensure that the maximum amount of funds are utilised.

To ensure that the funds are fully utilised by the civic body, the authority has claimed that the process for preparing the draft budget of 2013-14 is in progress.
