PMC Pune Rescued Residents of Anandnagar as Mutha River Rose

No Comments Sub Category:Uncategorized Posted On: Aug 30, 2011

The water level of the Mutha River began to rise since Monday afternoon, forcing people residing on the river banks to vacate their places. Mechanics and owners of food joints had to hurriedly remove their vehicles and stalls to safer places.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Monday rescued about 60 residents from Anandnagar on Sinhagad Road after water gushed into the parking area of Shamsundar Apartment from the swollen Mutha river. Some roads in Tadiwala slums and Pulachiwadi were under water.

Tilak Bridge was closed for traffic as water levels in the Mutha river rose and no traffic was allowed before water submerged the bridge. “Citizens should contact the disaster management cell in case of an emergency on phone numbers 25501130 or 9689931511. We will ensure that immediate help is provided to citizens,” said Ganesh Sonune, head of the disaster management cell.

Hemant Jagtap, a resident of Kudale Patil Garden on Sinhagad Road, said, “When I was informed about the rising river, we went to the buildings where water enters first. We did not hear the announcement made by the civic body. Apartments like Dwarka and Sharada Sarovar are flooded and some two wheelers could not be taken out. We are waiting for the water to recede.
