PMC to complete tree census

Tree censusThe civic body has appointed two agencies to conduct the tree census work. The first agency left the work incomplete and the second agency has counted 3 lakh trees of more than 200 species in the city’s jurisdiction.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has asked the civic administration to complete the ongoing tree census within the next few months.

The tree census started in August 2008 by the PMC and till 2011 about 21.26 lakh trees were counted by the first agency. So far the count is around 24.26 lakhs trees. Each tree is photographed and counted by professionals.

All the data are available online and any of the officers can login and see area wise data and photographs. The data on circumference of the tree, height, age and other details are available.
