PMC well set for coming Monsoon
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) purchased equipment like transceivers (walkie-talkies), floating pumps and tree-cutting machines to handle flood-like situations. If the monsoon gets any heavier and there are any flood-like situations, Pune disaster management cell will be able to handle it. The cell was keeping a 24×7 watch on the situation at chowks vulnerable to waterlogging. Besides, web cameras will be installed at 50 spots that face regular waterlogging.
Deputy commissioner Praveen Ashtikar, who is in-charge of the cell, said, “The PMC purchased 25 sets of walkie-talkies for internal communication. If the cellphone network breaks down, this system will come to our rescue. Besides, we are starting video-conferencing service in ward offices which will be connected to the municipal commissioner’s office.”
Ashtikar said 12 tree-pruning machines and floating pumps to flush out water were purchased by the PMC PuneĀ recently. “Tree-pruning machines are with the fire brigade and the garden department. Floating water pumps are given to ward offices and fire brigade. These equipment will empower the disaster management cell to tackle the flood-like situation,” said Ashtikar.
Ashtikar added that the cell was keeping a 24×7 watch on the situation at chowks vulnerable to waterlogging. Besides, web cameras will be installed at 50 spots that face regular waterlogging. As of now, 20 cameras have been installed. Three cameras have been installed at Ram Nadi, behind Praj Industries and nearby housing societies. Some other spots where the cameras will be set up include Alka talkies chowk, Shivchaitanya society in Kothrud, Warje chowk, Ayodhya society at Market Yard and Karve statue.
