Residents fed up with poor maintenance and security of NGV

Comments(2) Sub Category:Community Posted On: Sep 27, 2010

The residents of National Games Village (NGV) in Koramangala are fed up with the poor maintenance and security and they want to take charge of NGV’s open spaces, but local laws do not permit KHB to make these over to the RWAs. Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) says they can only be transferred to the civic body.

There are 15 residents’ associations in NGV and an apex body. Each block is maintained by its respective association. The residents ask KHB not to allow outsiders in the Village and also to hand over the security and maintenance of the common public spaces to associations.

According to local laws, KHB can only transfer these areas to the local civic body. The residents ask KHB not to allow outsiders in the parks located in the Village. But KHB says they are helpless as the people say common spaces belong to everybody and restricting outsiders is not possible as the residents children too bring their friends to the Village. This may confuse as who are outsiders or friends of residents.

Residents of the area want control over its open spaces like gardens, roads and street lights, as well as security. But housing board says they can only be transferred to the local civic body.

Lived there for almost 5 years. Lovely place but the worst security. The only reason why we moved out of NGV was due to outsiders coming over and being part of hooligisms near my apartment (had a ground floor apartment) and neither the police nor the association not the KHB nor the security was of any help….
