Pune Municipal Corporation to propose Development in Traffic Junctions

Pune Municipal Corporation(PMC’s) executive engineer, N Barapatre reported saying that the tenders for the works were informed long before to avoid the delay in the further work and the work is expected to start over by the end of this year, 2011. PMC has several improvement plans at the traffic junctions which has been a major issue since few months. The work has been pressured as the accidents are increasing everyday. The development and improvement at 75 of the 100 traffic junctions has been suggested by the PMC. The works are in progress to increase safety for pedestrians and also commuters. The proposed works has been comprised with the identification of the existing physical features and the improvement plans in consultation with the traffic police. Indian Roads Congress and principles of traffic engineering had proposed to have completed the standards concerned to this plan.
The civic body also has accepted that the junctions were faulty in design from the beginning. An official of the PMC roads department reported saying that the intersections play a major role in the transit of vehicles and that the junctions in the city was to face the maximum traffic congestion. This is considered a threat to commuters and also to the pedestrians. The development of the roads has decreased the traffic chaos and better connectivity to different parts of the city through roads are seen. The municipal corporation in concern with the traffic police has decided to undertake a program of junction improvement to facilitate better vehicular movement all over the city, reported one of the civic body in Pune.
