Pune to soon have a Mechanical composting plant
If all goes well there will soon be a in Pune. Acting on the directions of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to invite tenders in its bid to start full-scale operation of plant at Moshi garbage depot. The zone generates someĀ 500 tonnes of garbage. The garbage at present is untreated and is dumped without processing.
Official of the civic authority has said that they have built a composting plant to treat five hundred tonnes of garbage daily.They also revealed that the plant was started in a trial basis and it was notĀ declared to be fully functional so the MPCB served them with the notice.The officials added that the contractor took three and half years to complete the construction of the mechanical composting plant instead of 18 months. The work was done under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission(JNNURM) and it cost 12.5 crore in the construction.
