Rain Gods in Chennai offered dual gifts to the city, it not only cooled the city but also restored the power crisis in the region. The city from a long time was reeling under severe heat has witnessed a drastic increase in the temperature but with the sky pouring in now, it has brought a welcome relief to the city. Also Chennai was reeling under severe power crisis. The situation was worsened by the Telengana agitation. Due to which there was disruption in the coal supply in the state. Also the floods in Orissa adversely affected the city’s power scenario. But the downpour this monsoon has even sorted this power crisis.
Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) official on Diwali have said that there has been a drop in the demand in the power. The present drop in the demand is below 7,000MW. Now it fluctuates between 7,500 to 8,000MW. The drop in demand has relieved the people Chennai from constant load shedding in the city since Diwali. The electricity demand dropped by nearly 3,000 MW over the past few days and has put the power utility in a better position.
