Rajasthan HC seeks details of plot owners of Gokul Vatika
Jaipur- The Rajasthan high court has directed the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) to procure all the details of the government officials and their relatives who own plots in Gokul Vatika, the controversial residential development.
Gokul Vatika, launched in 2005, is a residential scheme located in JLN Road, Jaipur. It was alleged that instead of allotting plots to genuine applicants, the authorities have allotted plots to influential government officials, including IAS, IPS, RAS and RPS officers. Some officers have indirectly become the owners by buying plots through their relatives. Following this, the court demanded JDA to furnish all the details of such plot owners.
HC has given three-days deadline to the JDA and within this deadline the authority has to provide the details of names of government officials or their beneficiary kin/relatives, the plots bought by them, the mode of payment and when the payment was made.
The court even discussed with JDA counsel regarding CBI probe to look into the corruption in the matter. However, it is not yet confirmed.
Initially, the litigation was decided in favour of the petitioners by the JDA Appellate Tribunal. The JDA has now appealed before the high court and while hearing the appeal, the court issued directions for submitting details on government officials.
Earlier in 2008, Gokul Vatika was struck in another controversy. An anti-corruption bureau (ACB) court had ordered a probe into the matter on the basis of a complaint filed by Shree Krishan Kukkad.
Meanwhile, others were alleging that the JDA illegally withheld allotting more than 20 plots on the pretext that their demarcation and layout plans were yet to be completed. And as per the litigation, these plots were later illegally allotted to influential government officials in direct or indirect manner.
