With an aim to provide better connectivity, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) under its Phase III expansion plan plans to set up more than one station in large residential and commercial areas of the national Capital.

According to officials, the expansion has been planned in a manner that the large residential as well as commercial areas will have more than one station as well as a corridor for better connectivity.

Featuring high on the list of these localities is the busy educational and transport hub of Dhaula Kuan, which already has a station on the Airport Express Link.

Dhaula Kuan, Mayur Vihar, Punjabi Bagh, Nehru Place, Okhla and Jasola to have multiple station under the Phase III expansion plan

‘South Campus’ will be another station that will come up on the Mukundpur-Shiv Vihar corridor in the same locality. This will be useful for Delhi University students travelling to colleges in Dhaula Kuan.

Mayur Vihar, one of the biggest residential areas of the city, currently has two stations, Mayur Vihar Phase 1 and Mayur Vihar Extension. Another station to cater to the interior parts of the locality named ‘Mayur Vihar Pocket-1′ will come up on the Mukundpur-Shiv Vihar corridor.

Punjabi Bagh, the West Delhi residential-cum-commercial hub, currently has only one station on the Inderlok to Mundka corridor and one more station named ‘Punjabi Bagh West’ will come up on the Mukundpur-Shiv Vihar corridor under Phase III.

Nehru Place, the Capital’s IT hub, already has a station on the Central Secretariat-Badarpur corridor but under the new expansion plan, it will get another station named ‘Nehru Enclave’, which is expected to come up on the other side of the outer Ring Road on the Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden route.

The proposed Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden corridor will also have two more stations in Okhla named as ‘Okhla Phase 3′ and ‘Okhla Vihar’. This is despite the fact that it has only one station, ‘Okhla’, on the existing Central Secretariat-Badarpur corridor.

Jasola, an upcoming residential and commercial area in south Delhi, currently has just got the ‘Jasola Apollo’ station on the Central Secretariat-Badarpur corridor. Under the expansion plan of Phase III, another station with the name ‘Jasola Vihar Shaheen Bagh’ will come up on the Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden route.
