Residents getting drinking water contaminated with sewage
The residents of Thimmaiah Road Cross in Shivajinagar was getting drinking water contaminated with sewage. BWSSB officials visited the area and the water supply has been stopped. Many residents are still suffering from fever and skin problems. Most are children and people above the age of 40.
The problem began on Nov 13. Since then, at least 25 people have been hospitalized with skin infections, fever and diarrhoea. BWSSB officials visited the area on Nov 20. After that, the water supply stopped. Now, some of the residents begun buying packaged water for drinking. But not everyone in the locality can afford packaged water. So, they walk more than a kilometer away to collect water from a BWSSB tap in the Muthyalamma temple.
Residents says that BWSSB officials are not even giving a deadline when the problem will be solved and water supply restored. Not everyone in the locality can afford packaged water. After several calls, BWSSB on Thursday morning sent a tanker. Each house got one or two buckets of water. But not all people are in a position to procure water in tankers or resort to packaged water.
Residents who are ill and suffering from fever, has no options for drinking water in their locality but had to walk more than a kilometer away to collect water from a BWSSB tap in the Muthyalamma temple.
