Residents had to rely on tankers for Water
Residents of Vasant Enclave have not been getting regular water supply for three weeks now. Until three weeks ago, the residents of 44 households in south Delhi’s Vasant Enclave area were getting contaminated water that would
stink. They stopped using supply water and got their tanks cleaned. Now the residents had to rely on Delhi Jal Board (DJB) tankers to provide them with water.
“We have completely stopped using the water. We got our tanks cleaned and a lot of muck came out of the tanks. We don’t want to get them dirty again,” said Ritu Singh Deo, a resident of Vasant Enclave. “Though we get DJB tankers whenever we ask for them, it is a big problem as we have to plan the day around it,” she added.
Now, however, the residents need not worry about dirtying the tanks, as the DJB has cut the pipeline that supplies water to the affected block. “We have already cut the pipeline for that area as residents have encroached government land, which is not giving us access to dig and find out the problem,” said BM Dhaul, chief engineer (South), DJB.
“We had written to the DJB on August 27, apprising them of the problem. They replied after 10 days, saying that residents were not letting them dig the area outside their houses. They did not tell us who these residents were and just cut the supply,” said Suresh Gupta, president, Residents’ Welfare Association.
“We have already cut the pipeline for that area as residents have encroached government land, which is not giving us access to dig and find out the problem,” said BM Dhaul, chief engineer (South), DJB.
However, residents disagree. “How can someone stop authorities from carrying out any work? These are just excuses. In fact, they had dug the area initially,” said a resident.
