Residents of Bangalore must be prepared to pay more for Power Supply

Bangalore residents should be prepared to pay more for Electricity Supply Companies (Escoms) are spending nearly Rs 1,000 crore from April 2011 to August 2011. The Karnataka state has purchased only 40.5 million units at a cost of Rs 27.7 crore for the financial year 2008 and Rs 899.56 crore for the financial year. Henceforth the power shortage is increasing everyday all over the city. The cost of power ranges between Rs 5.87 to Rs 7.7 per unit. Meanwhile the Power Company of Karnataka Ltd are ahead of proposing bids to purchase 700MW of power from October 15, 2011.

The increased demand for power is seen in the southern states and due to coal shortage the power supply to Karnataka has been paused for now. However Power Company of Karnataka Limited (PCKL) is ahead of plans to purchase power to meet the demands of the residents. Sources claim that the power sectors are still scrambling for the sufficient power for the state. However Karnataka has approached for 780MW of Round The-Clock (RTC) power and for now,  power generators have been maintaining the power supply for the state.
