Residents of Domlur Layout staged Rashta Roko against rash driving

1 Comment Sub Category:Uncategorized Posted On: Apr 09, 2011

Residents of 5th Cross in Domlur Layout staged a ‘Rashta Roko‘ or road-block near the bakery against rash driving by cab drivers.”Daily almost 200 cabs pass this road making it impossible for residents to move around. Most of the drivers drive rashly.” says a resident.

Recently, a five-year-old girl was hit by a car. After the incident, people from the locality raised their voice and protested against cab drivers. For some time, they stopped cab drivers. But soon, things were again back to square one.

On March 14, Domlur Association members discussed the issue and decided to approach the authority concerned. So far, the authorities have only assured them but in reality nothing has been done. People fear that if the situation remains as it is, some major accident is bound to happen.

To reach Ring road, most drivers take 5th Cross as it is a signal-free stretch. Motorists take advantage as there is no speed limit or speed breakers. “Cab drivers drive at a speed of 60 to 70 km. Even after so many protests, no steps have been taken to improve the situation. We are complaining about this rash driving for more than one year. Once they put up speed breakers but after some time for reasons unknown, they were removed,” said Prakash who runs a medical store in Domlur.

“These cab drivers keep on honking on the road, it’s a disturbance during exams,” said Roopa, a resident of Domlur.

“We are happy that at least the Domlur association has taken up this issue and trying to make life peaceful in this lane,” said T J Jacob a resident.
