Residents of Mayur Vihar forced to consume Poisonous Water
Mayur Vihar has been facing water related problems. Residents claim that the wastage in the water regulator pit is contaminating the water supply in the area. The tap water is so bad that it gives a foul smell even after purifying. The purified water has to be boiled to make it drinkable.
In Mayur Vihar Phase II, Delhi Jal Board’s (DJB’s) water regulator pit, which distributes water to the area, has turned into a dump yard and people are being forced to consume poisonous water. “This regulator, installed in two pits, has been left uncovered for the past six months. It has now become a dump yard for waste,” said KV Murleedharan, a resident of pocket B, Mayur Vihar Phase II.
“After rain, the pit gets filled with water, and now it serves as a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The rain water mixed with the waste is seeping into the valves which regulate water supply,” added Murleedharan.
Despite several complaints, no one from the DJB has bothered to address their complaints. “DJB sends us exorbitant bills every month. Our water meters are not working and they haven’t replaced them despite several complaints,” said Rajesh Sehgal, president, of Mayur Vihar’s Pocket-B RWA.
