Residents of Malibu Town are disgruntled because of the lack of basic amenities. The developer has provided no sewerage connection. Residents claim that they even spotted the developer’s maintenance team dumping the sewerage in storm water drains. Malibu Town Spread across 220 acres in Gurgaon accommodates more than 1,500 families.

In a Right to Information (RTI) reply given by the superintending engineer (circle I) of the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), the authority categorically mentions that no sewerage connection was sanctioned to the developer — Malibu Estate Private Limited. “As far as sewerage connection charges are concerned, it has been informed by the executive engineers that no sewerage connection stands sanctioned to the developer and hence no amount stands deposited,” the reply said on June 20.

Raman Sharma, a resident, said: “We filed a complaint against the pollution control board but no action was taken.”

Another resident Manoj Anand said the rainwater harvesting pits have also been polluted by the sewer water. “We sought the help of a private company to build rainwater harvesting units in the colony but they are used as dumping grounds.”

Taking note of the issue, Alka Dalal, president of the residents’ welfare association (RWA), said, “On many days, a tank is sent to pump out the water early morning to be dumped, at times, near the gate of Malibu Towne, or sometimes, at an open space near the township. Eight lakh litres of water is consumed in the township. If the tanker is not available on a given day, the sewer starts overflowing.”

Residents of the township are disgruntled because of the lack of basic amenities. In view of that, they have filed numerous RTIs applications to address these issues. In their 37-point agenda, the absence of a sewerage connection, non-functioning solar energy panel, removal of encroachment on a green belt, transfer of the community centre and access to the roof are the major issues.
