Residents oppose Balasaheb’s memorial at Shivaji Park
While Shiv Sena plan to construct a memorial of Sena chief Bal Thackeray at Shivaji Park, the residents are busy discussing on what has to be their move in opposing it.
Residents had a discussion over the course of action and decided to react only after an official move is made either by the government or the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Till now there hasn’t been any official request made by the Sena members regarding the memorial construction.
The Shivaji Park residents association, which is already fighting a case against noise pollution and public meetings at the park, has been strongly protesting against the Sena’s plan.
Representatives of sports clubs located around the public recreation ground also expressed their concerns over the memorial, saying that it will hamper playing sports on the ground considering the number of people who will visit the site.
Shivaji Park is a playground and it should remain so, affirmed Uday Deshpande, general secretary of a sports club at Shivaji Park. A memorial will require maintenance and security and all these will disturb the game, he added.
