Residents themselves Renovate Roads after Repeated Requests to the Authorities

No Comments Sub Category:Uncategorized Posted On: Sep 19, 2011

The residents of Ayarkunnam, Kochi are depending on this road to reach Kottayam. Two years ago, the PWD had spent 98 lakh to for the maintenance of the same road. Nearly about 50 residents of the Ayarkunnam grama panchayath were busy repairing almost one and half kilometers of the three-kilometre long Thandassery-Parakadavu stretch. The condition of the road is so pathetic that the two bus services in the route were stopped as the owners are tired of repairing their vehicles.

If all people in the state emulate the path of Ayarkkunnam residents, the problem of dilapidated roads can be addressed up to an extent. Now, the buses have restarted its services in full swing. The locals thought of repairing the road themselves after repeated requests to the authorities. “We had no other way. We were depending on the two buses for sending our children to schools and for other purposes. After the maintenance work, the vehicles can pass through it without much trouble”, added Krishnakumar.
