Residents’ victory against bootleggers
Hyderabad- Unlike many other colonies in Chatrinaka police limits, residents of Banjara Colony in Falaknuma won the battle with the bootleggers by getting rid of illicit liquor flourishing from three decades from their neighbourhood.
Within 5 km limit of Chatrinika police station is the Ravindra Naik Banjara Colony sheltering 3000 families and is the key place for the illicit liquor sale. Another area known as Dhoolpet produces liquor and makes its way to places in the colony. However, with the patronage of the local police, the sale points in these areas allegedly flourished for decades.
This created a lot of nuisance with an increased number of drunkards followed by frequent deaths due to the consumption of adulterated liquor. Due to all these issues, the residents of Banjara Colony began counselling the liquor consumers resulting in the shut down of the decade long 30 sale points.
The kind approach to the sellers by the residents did not work and thus the residents had to address the consumers resulting in a decreased amount of liquor consumers. Now places like railway stations and others are safe and people violating the norms are being arrested by the police.
