Residents welcome a quieter and cleaner Shivaji Park
Residents of Dadar (W) are happy that the authorities are finally taking steps to stop the exploitation of the historic park-Shivaji Park by political parties and religious leaders for their events. Shivaji Park is much sought-after residential addresses with its old-world charm, a view of the sea or the park, and tree-lined lanes. The only drawback of living in this part of the city, they say, are the rallies and functions that tend to turn a deaf ear to noise pollution norms, despite the fact that the park is now a silence zone.
Shivaji Park in Mumbai is in the middle of a row, especially after the BMC’s decision to not allow the Shiv Sena Dasara rally and the Bengal Club Durga Puja. The park is surrounded by middle-class apartments, largely belonging to the Marathi manoos, who are fed up of the political events in the area. Short of soundproofing their homes, an expensive affair, residents have to live with the noise. Sports persons complain that the pitches get damaged. Hygiene and cleanliness is also a bone of contention.
Dadar is home to the famous Shivaji Park, a huge playground which has been home to some of the best cricket players in the world. The Shivaji Park Residential area has also become a highly sought after residential area in South Mumbai because of its proximity.
The residents are happy that the authorities have started to take steps to curb the noise pollution in the park. The park could be used for what is was meant for—a ground for sportspersons, a place that locals could enjoy, go for walks, etc.
