Road diggingA city based organisation has demanded the civic body to make road digging details public. Creative Foundation has stated that many people don’t get information about road digging that takes place in their respective areas.

Due to the digging of roads and public not knowing about it, residents are suffering a lot. There is a possibility that digging of road is taking place illegally in many parts of the city.

As per the organisation, the civic body should provide the details of road digging, including the location, who has ordered the digging, the length of the dug up roads and how much revenue the civic administration has earned through the digging of roads.

The standing committee of the civic body recently approved a proposal on increasing the charges for restoration of roads which were dug up to lay cables or pipelines.

As the proposal was made, the civic body had suggested an increase of Rs 700 per sq metre for restoration of roads. The current charges are Rs 1,900 per sq metre. They have been increased to Rs 2600 per sq metre.

However, many activists around the city are not fine with the increase and claim that the increase in charges will cause problems to the common man and can also lead to illegal road digging.
