Road Restoration Costs Rs 57crores in Varanasi

The heavy rainfall at Varanasi lead to damaged roads in and around the city and the district administration has filed a petition for the allotment of Rs. 56.75 crores for restoration works. The budget will come under the Calamity Relief Fund (CRF) and will be forwarded to the relief commissioner in Lucknow. The petition was filed soon after Chief Minister Mayawati concluded survey of the affected regions and met officials at Babatpur airport asking them to furnish a detailed report on the restoration expanses under CRF.

Incessant rainfall in east Uttar Pradesh and also some of the areas like Varanasi, Jaunpur and Mirzapur are experiencing heavy rainfall ever and this has left a trail of destruction. Places like Mahmoorganj, Bajardiha had remained waterlogged for more than a week. The downpour along with the waterlogging has worsened the situation and around 151 roads in the district are in need of immediate restoration. The calamitous rainfall on September 25 has resulted in loss of six lives and more than 12 persons were injured and nearly 2,700 houses collapsed in the region due to the extreme downpour.
