Royalty gets common treatment for property tax!

1 Comment Sub Category:Uncategorized Posted On: Jan 17, 2012

Nobody is spared from paying property tax, neither a common man nor a king.

The quote holds true as the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) has put a huge tax of around Rs 1 crore on the family of Mysore Maharaja, Jayachamaraja Wadiyar.

The tax has been levied on their litigated land in Palace Grounds with effect from 2008.

Finding the tax ridiculous, the Wadiyars have challenged it in front of the corporation.

They allege that they continuously pay their taxes whenever they hold any event on the grounds to the Department of Personnel & Administrative.

BBMP has to say that the royal family has to pay taxes for each and every event held on their land.

The civic body charge Rs 6 per sqft for covered areas and Rs 3 per sqft for uncovered areas in the property for every event held since 2008.
