RWAs met L-G of Delhi to discuss Traffic Problem in GK II
Representatives of more than 30 residents’ welfare associations (RWAs) met special commissioner traffic B S Bassi and joint CP (traffic) Satyendra Garg on Monday morning to discuss the traffic problem in the Savitri Cinema, GK-II area.
With the lieutenant governor of Delhi (L-G ) , Tejendra Khanna, directing UTTIPEC and Delhi Traffic Police to look into the traffic problem near the area , residents of GK-II are hopeful that the situation in their area will finally improve. Sources say the RWAs had written to the L-G, asking him to keep the complex closed till the matter is settled. The RWAs had made certain suggestions to the L-G pertaining to the traffic chaos in the area in which they had said that all the NOCs which were issued in 2002 should be reviewed as they might have become redundant in view of the evolving situation over the years.
“The traffic situation at present is unmanageable. If the mall-cum-cinema complex opens up, then it will only worsen the existing problem. Even now, it takes nearly 20 minutes to cross the area during non peak hours.
We have learnt that the builder is planning to open the complex shortly and we are against it. We hope a decision in our favour is taken soon,” said Chetan Sharma, chairman, Federation of GK-II Complex RWAs.
The L-G has written to the UTTIPEC, asking it to look into the problems on ground and work out solutions in consultation with the RWA of GK-II and traffic police. Sources said a further meeting among the RWA members and officials was likely to take place this week. “The entire traffic problem will be discussed at length and the best entry and exit points for the complex will also be deliberated upon. Traffic restrictions in this area might also be suggested,” said a source.
