Sector 22 Gurgaon Residents worried over Sewage Leakage
The residents of Sector 22, Gurgaon have no option but to live with the overflowing sewage all around. Residents said that the sewerage line of the colony has been choked for the past two weeks. The frequent showers are only adding to their woes. According to residents, it’s been over a week that sewage has been spilling over to the sector’s roads but HUDA officials have been unable to clear the mess.
The sewerage line of a nearby village is connected to that of the colony, said residents. “Garbage from the village gets stuck at the point where the two lines meet the main line,” said a resident. The colony has over 1,000 plotted houses and the worst affected are those that are located on the low-lying areas.
Residents claimed that multiplicity of authority is partially to blame for the mess. “While the village is in the jurisdiction of the municipal corporation, our colony is under HUDA’s control. Our problem won’t be solved unless the sewerage faults caused by the village lines are not sorted out,” said Dharampal Yadav, a resident.
HUDA has now roped in a private vendor to clear the manholes and unclog the main sewerage line. “The machines are being deployed by the private vendor but its officials are taking their own sweet time to do the job. The work of cleaning the the main sewerage pipeline might go for sometime, said a HUDA official. The official also claimed that the sewerage lines are choked not because of the problem in the line but because of solid waste being dumped into the sewerage line.
