Seven Unauthorized Buildings Sealed in Chennai
Chennai Corporation has identified seven illegal buildings on Wednesday in the commercial districts of Mannady and Sowcarpet. The demolition work will be continued in the neighboring districts on Thursday. Most of the buildings received plan permits for less floors but continued to construct more floors than sanctioned. Madras high court-appointed monitoring committee will be scheduled to hold its meeting on unauthorized constructions. Builders were given enough time to set right the violations failing which demolition is taking place.
The under-construction buildings, in the Seven Wells, Clive Battery, Vallal Seethakathi Nagar and Kachaleeswarar Nagar wards of the Basin Bridge zone, violated development regulations of the Town and Country Planning Act, 1971. Norms such as front setback and side setback were not followed, while parking space was not seen as a necessity in these high-rise buildings.
The showcause notices were sent last month,” said an official associated with the sealing operation. The unauthorized structures are located at 9/6, Narayanan Street, Seven Wells; 10, Dharmaraja Koil Second Lane, 5/3, Periannan Street, 2/2, Nettu Street, 26, Narayana Sarang Street, Mannady; 36/63 Muthumari Street, and 87, Armenian Street, Broadway.
