Shiv Sena:Info on Construction Works in Pune be made Public
There are a number of large-scale constructions being developed in and around the city Pune and similar works are in the pipeline in other cities as well. Most such projects will impact the ecology of the particular area. Citizens need to be informed about these works at the time the project begins,” Shiv Sena MLC and spokesperson Neelam Gorhe said during a news conference here on Wednesday.
The Shiv Sena on Wednesday demanded that all information about large-scale construction schemes in the state, and especially the ones coming up near the city, should be made public.
Gorhe also claimed that developers of such projects were making false claims about recruitment. “Many projects, on the lines of the lake city projects in the Mulshi area, are being developed near Panshet and Varasgaon dams. These projects will use water from the rivers and dams in and around the city. It will ultimately have an impact on Pune’s drinking water resources and so the citizens have a right to know how the water will be utilised,” she added.
“They make big claims about giving jobs to the locals, but are not keeping their word. In cases when they do, it’s only the blue collared jobs that are given. Information regarding job availability and jobs given to locals should also be made public. This will help keep a check on the claims of developers.”
Reacting on the issue of Shiv vada (vada paav to be sold under the brand) controversy, she said politicisation of such issues should be avoided, since the initiative is for the public. “The decision to introduce Shiv vada in Pune will be taken after the elections,” she said, in a reply to a question about extension of the scheme to other parts of the state.
Gorhe said that Sena’s city unit has started using social networking sites, such as Facebook, to reach out to the public.
